16 Mitchell Way

We have lived here for over 15 years. We love the place and this house.

Balcony View

We like to think that the whole of Windy Harbour is a kids playground but there is a purpose-built one with a gas BBQ, basketball hoop and a grassed area next to it.

Balcony

Also solar panels and seperate alcove for gas stove AND a wood-fired oven.

Close to beach

The house has been rebuilt in 2018. Reclad With Hardies Primeline - tough, weatherproof and fire resistant; a new colourbond roof and a new upstairs extension with an undercroft which makes a nice outdoor area.

Outside

We spend a lot of time outside in our garden.

Shed

A small shed where I keep the generator.

Upstairs

With own bidet toilet and handbasin.

Downstairs

With a built-in wardrobe

Attractions

Windy Harbour

Fishing. There are plenty of spots within walking distance. Depending on the time of year, wind and tides, sand whiting and herring are usually easy to catch. There are spots for swimming to the right of the boat ramp and sheltered bays, providing good snorkelling in the right conditions.

Salmon Beach

Great Fishing.

Cathedral Beach

Walk or drive to this beautiful protected beach.

Point D' Entrecasteaux and the lighthouse walks

Wheelchair friendy bitumen paths surround a modern solar powered beacon guiding ships around this treacherous part of the coast. Stainless steel viewing decks look down on 'Flattop', home to seals and sea birds, then across to Sandy Island and its surrounding reefs which protect Windy Harbour from the ravages of the Southern Ocean. Other viewing areas look directly west, ideal places to watch the magnificent sunsets. One path leads to the "Window" a huge hole in the rock face looking through to the sea. There's a limestone track which follows along the cliffs and down to Cathedral Beach, it then continues through the dunes back to the settlement.
Drive There are severeal well constructed lookouts, all are easily accessed by road. Walking trails The Pupalong track leads from the light-house to Tookalup. A winding limestone path along the top of the cliffs through rock outcrops and fascinating stunted scrub, minature banksia and wild flowers.

Bird Watching

Lots to see here including the rare hooded plover, lovely oyster catchers, grand sea eagles, spledid and superb fairy wrens. From the veranda, enjoy watching the New Holland honey eaters and wattle birds getting nectar from the grevillias and bottlebrush. Below you'll find the latest list complied by Christine Wilder.

Kids Playground

We like to think that the whole of Windy Harbour is a kids playground but there is a purpose-built one with a gas BBQ, basketball hoop and a grassed area next to it.

Shop

There is a small shop at the Caretakers office selling basic supplies.

Barbeque

A gas BBQ is available near the playground and basketball hoop.
